Places to visit/ What to do?


Santa Marta is surrounded by beautiful beaches and wonderful hiking spots. You can also find fantastic restaurants in the city. Some ideas on what to do:






Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino: Here is where will have the party! You can go back and visit this Hacienda where Simón Bolivar, Liberator of the Americas, died. In the premises you'll find a botanical garden and an art gallery that shows temporary exhibits by local, national and regional artists.  


Taganga: A small fisherman village, it has some backpacker-style bars and restaurants. Here you'll find scuba-diving spots and academies that provide the gear and tours

Parque Nacional Tayrona: Fantastic beaches. If you want to visit, remember to get the yellow fever vaccine, they ask for the certificate at the gate. 

Neguanje and Playa Cristal: These two beaches are absolutely lovely, if not too crowded. You might want to give them a try.

Quebrada Valencia: A great hiking spot. You'll find fresh water falls.

Ciudad Perdida: If you're in adventure mood, you can visit this majestic archaeological site in the middle of the mountains. It's a 3 day hike!

Palomino, La Guajira: If you have time, and you want to visit pristine beaches, this is a good spot to go. There are several small hotels and hostels by the beach.
